Description
Luiz Pendant Design Böttcher Henssler Kayser for Mater
The Luiz Pendant is a contemporary interpretation of the ordinary pendant lamp, which combines the natural qualities of cork with traditional craftsmanship. The lamp shade is made in Portugal from locally harvested cork, from the cork oak. These trees have an average lifespan of more then 200 years, and can be harvested every 9 years without damaging the tree. The Luiz Lamp is made of cork from responsible managed cork oak forests, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This means not only the cork production is protected but also the local biodiversity. The metal top of the Luiz Lamp is made in Denmark by one of the few remaining workshops that master the spinning technique to perfection. The Luiz hanging lamp is available in two colors, natural, dark Cork Cork. The dimensions are: diameter 185 mm and the height is 152 mm
LED
A LED light puts 90 percent of the energy into light and only 10 percent into heat. A conventional light bulb does exactly the opposite. A Led bulb consumes less power to produce the same light output. This is a considerable reduction in use of electricity and this is good for the environment. And LED bulbs have a longer service life than other light sources. So it’s cheaper and better for the environment to use Led light sources instead of conventional light bulbs. The light source of the Luiz Pendant a 8 Watt LED light source corresponding to the light output of a 60 Watt conventional light bulb. The color of the light is 2700 K, what we experience as warm light. The LED Light source is included with the lamp.
Mater
Mater is a conscious and ethical design brand with a strong design philosophy and great craftsmanship. Henrik Marstrand, CEO & Founder : “Mater means ‘mother’ in Latin. The name is the daily reminder of our small contribution to preventing the challenges ‘mother earth’ faces. Design influences how we as humans live our lives; it shapes values, culture and society. Unfortunately, we are increasingly aware that the choices made during design processes often have environmental consequences. However, as a manufacturer, we have the opportunity to rethink dubious practices and create ethical and sustainable design that minimises adverse social and environmental impacts.”
